You could be forgiven for not havining heard the name Mountblood before, as the artist AKA Steven Anthony Molina sprung from relative obscuriy last year before supporting the likes of Skrillex and Bloc Party. With a raft of music due out in 2012, as well as his debut artist album, Thomas Reed caught up with the mysterious artist.
I really like the name Mountblood, how did you come about using this? I have had the alias MountBlood for so long, although not up until about 2010 did I start using for my music. MountBlood just fits how I feel as a person and musician. I have lost track of how I even came up with it. I have used it for emails, internet blogs and video game handles since I was like 12. Maybe it came from some RPG. Maybe it came from the back of my mind. No one will know. Not even myself.
Whats it like where you are now? I live in a small town close to Dallas, it is a humble place to write. It is my hometown. I grew up here. I love to travel and check out other cities, but I have to come back here to write.
What do you listen to when you are not in the studio? I listen to a lot of punk and thrash, some downtempo and shoegaze. I enjoy checking out new electronic artists as well on my downtime. So much great music is pumped out everyday on the charts, it is a second job keeping up.

What album cant you live without and tell us a bit about it. That would have to be Joy Division " Unknown Pleasures ". You cannot go on without jamming that every once in a while.
How do you put your tracks together in the studio? Every producer has its secrets, I use a variety of DAWS and software, but I usually sit in my studio for hours at a time working with guitars and trying to come up with riffs that I think will make the tracks flex. I like them to have a very raw and thrash vibe to them but still keeping the elements of dance and electro. I want to create a new wall of sound.

Whos record collection would you most like to have a snoop around if they left their house open. Ah, so many people that I would love to creep on and see what tunes they are swinging, but I would have to say my most curious would be Mr Oizo aka Quentin Dupieux. He has been doing his thing for so long.. he is a genius, I know he has a huge stash of super rare and eclectic albums. I love all of his work, music and film.
Tell us a bit about how you put this mix together for pulse. Scanned around for a few of my favorite tunes right now, had a mini party with myself. Ordered some fine italian food, and had a night in. It was a live mix, one take recorded in my home studio. I like to make my mixes just like my set, what you hear is what you get with me live. It was fun and I enjoyed raging in my studio to this hour long journey.
