Kris Menace - Broad Horizons

German DJ, producer, and remixer Kris Menace has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, collaborating with everyone from LCD Soundsystem to Moby. As he gets ready to release Electric Horizon LP, you can exclusively stream a mini mix of the album below. Joel Dahlin spoke to Kris about multiple album projects, and why he's not going to Ibiza this year.

First and foremost Kris, nice to meet you. How was 2011 for you? 2011 was a year of changes. I stepped back from touring, concentrated on my production and spent a lot of time in my studio to prepare some new projects and albums for 2012.

Can you tell us little bit more abou this? I do work since quite a while on a full on vocal album as so many asked me for it. I had so much material in the end that i decided to release an instrumental album first together with a little live tour supported by Hexstatic from london. I also started a new band project and nearly finished the Stars on 33 and Back Van albums. So lots of things are coming.

What was it like collaborating with Hexstatic? I met the guys through my manager. always been a big fan of them and i´m really happy that they are part of my live concept. Hexstatic will also provide the 2nd video of the album to the single called Efeel which is another instrumental club track!

The visuals in the video are amazing, did you have any input into the visual aspect of the video? When I did the track i already had pictures of a space oddisey in my head. When i asked Robin he had the same idea, so it was really great to see that we work together.

You're internationally recognised now, do you have a favourite country or city to play in? I really enjoy all gigs, though, i have to say that I stepped back with DJing as i think that these days its nothing special to DJ.

How are things at Compuphonic? What plans do you have for the label for the coming year?The label will concentrate on the "electric horizon" album and will release singles from it over the whole year. My third album will come soon too, which will include a lot of amazing guest vocalists.I´m really excited.

Do you have a hot tip of who to watch out for in 2012? Yeah, myself [Laughs]

You've played at Ibiza for years now, how do you think the island has changed, and do you think the changes are for the better or for the worse?  Honestly, i´m not deep enough into this djing at the moment. 2011 was the first year i havnt played in ibiza and that was for a reason. The clubs are changing, the promoters dont know what to do anymore, changing concepts, the prices are going up and up. I dont think that ibiza has the same vibe anymore than it had over the last years. When i first DJed in ibiza there was something special in the air. I havn't felt that for two or three years.

And finally, Is 2012 going to be 'the year' for you as an artist then Kris?  I don't like to put on any expectations anymore. so lets just see what happens. [Laughs]
