Just Jack - Bristol Hold'em

Just Jack - Bristol Hold'em

Maya Jane Cole, Jef K, Matt Tolfrey, Louche and Trouble Vision will all be helping Just Jack celebrate their sixth birthday at Motion on Saturday, but before then we caught up with promoters Rag, Dan, Rob, Jethro and Tom to have a look back at some of the highs and lows of the last six years. (Follow Just Jack on Facebook)

What have been some of the personal highlights for you over the last six years. Dan: The 5th birthday was a standout party for me. Everyone was going insane and when the the glitter cannon went off as Guti started his live show, I thought ' It doesn't get much better than this'.

Rag: I reckon It has to be the boat party we ran, that began at 9am after one of our Dojo shows. We traipsed 100 + people down from the club to the docks, put them on a boat & carried on till the police called the captain!

Have you had any moments, when you worried that you might be biting off more than you can chew. Tom: Oh yeah we've definitely bitten off more than we can chew on many occasions! The first time we decided to go it alone and do a 1000 person show in Motion's ramp room was probably the standout occasion. We'd gone from doing 300 - 400 person shows in clubs that had soundsystems and toilets and everything you'd expect a club to have, and then we jumped up to doing a 1000 person show in a skatepark with no sound, only one toilet and no lights. We had to bring it all in and it was a big job. But it seriously went off!

Jethro: Our 100kg wooden boxes were meant to be suspended from the ceiling above the DJ at our Halloween show. Unfortunately we hadn't thought a great deal about how we would hang them, Dan had found some carabiners in some Christmas crackers the year before and thought they would do the job. It soon became clear that if they failed they could have ended up killing Shaun Reeves which would probably have killed the vibe a bit!

Just jack is just a big house party with very good DJs. Discuss. Tom: Yeah that kind of summarises it I guess, I think the vibe is just very laid back compared to many events in the country. People are always up for a laugh and no one really takes themselves too seriously.

Dan: We don't take ourselves too seriously, and the whole party has a very relaxed vibe. We welcome everyone and try to create an environment where they can be themselves and let go, whilst being entertained by some of the most legendary and cutting edge purveyors of house and techno around.

What's next for Just Jack and how do you keep things different and exciting for yourselves as well as the clubbers:
Rag: We’re lucky that house is hot right now and we have to thank the very loyal crowd of Jackers who have supported us through thick and thin! In the future we will use different areas of the venue for each event, to keep it fresh and exciting. Plus we will be attending a few festivals throughout the summer to cause some havoc.

Rob: if I’m honest, every meeting we decide to spend most of our profit on more glitter, masks and other silly shit that takes our fancy! For us its really important that people come away thinking ‘what just happened? That was insane!’. We’re getting some guys in from Paris to help out with our Seth Troxler and Craig Richards show. [Fri.02.03.12] It should be pretty badass!
