Be at Bugged Out! & ReviveHER

Be at Bugged Out! & ReviveHER

Bugged Out! is hitting London's XOYO in Shoreditch this Saturday, 25th February, bringing along Dalston's ReviveHER for the ride.  The main room will present Glasgow's Jackmaster, Hessle Audio founder Ben UFO and party starters D-Lex and Oneman.  Taking over the gallery this time is one of London's freshest parties and labels, ReviveHER.  Run by Bi-Bop (aka ex-Bugged Out resident James Cooper), Nicholas Feel and DJ Kitt, the trio will play alongside Throne Of Blood's Bicep on Saturday and to give you an idea of just what you can expect, Bi-Bop has sent us five tracks that sum up his sets.  If you fancy being there for free, just answer this question-

Q. Name one of the headliners at ReviveHER's last party.

Send answers here and winners will be notified before Saturday 25th February.

Bi-Bop's (ReviveHER) Top 5:

1. Soft Rocks - Talking Jungle - (Justin Van Der Volgen Remix) - Unreleased

Justin Van Der Volgen gives Soft Rocks' "Talking Jungle" the star remix treatment that only he can on one of the standout tracks from their album on Lovefingers' cult label ESP Institute. The steel drums give way in the mix to the beautifully melancholic yet slightly funky piano riffs. The track builds and builds before breaking down and building back up into a crescendo of sound effects shadowing the bluesy piano riff that comes back in and a haunting vocal. A track that really needs to be played in its entirety. Like on the "Try To Find Me" series, anything Vandervolgen touches really turns to gold.

2. Fudge Fingas - Mass X (Vakula Remix) - Firecracker Recordings

I hadn't heard the original version in all fairness, yet I heard Jason at Kristina Records mixing this into Lord Of The Isles "Hot Blob", which unfortunately doesn't make the cut because it was released in 2011. Yet this remix from man of the moment Vakula, is full on warehouse percussion, an array of effects sprawled over multi layered synth lines, turning this into a hypnotic voodoo style of deep house in a genre of its own. One to save the floor for sure.

3. Ruf Dug - 1 4 Ron - Ruf Kutz no. 4

Having been a student in Manchester, I had the excellent opportunity to warm up for Bugged Out! and Basics legend James Holroyd many a time. His vast array of vinyl opened me up to a lot of music, especially the 80s jams and proto house vibes he was playing. The wealth of knowledge surrounding those DJs around him, include the likes of Balearic Mike and Ruf Dug. I've been following Ruf Dug's Ruf Kutz series for a while now and there's little wrong with his productions, most being an ode to that time. This one pays tribute to Ron Hardy, aptly entitled 1 4 Ron. This reworks the riff in Serious Intention's "You Don't Know". Ruf Dug definitely on the wishlist to play ReviveHER

4. I:Cube - Hnt - Les Edits Du Golem

The Edits Du Golem series returns after 3 years with an inimitable take on edits. Having become tired of the edit bubble, there are very few tastemakers out there that do it for me. The likes of Eric Duncan, C.O.M.B.I., Golf Channel, Justin Vandervolgen are all killer assassins of the edit and so is I:Cube. Having worked for Warm I have experienced Nicholas Chaix in full effect. This is my favourite of the EP. Beautifully crafted, melancholic synth lines work around a repeating several single noted piano melody that would work as an epic end of night track. This one's big!

5. Auntie Flo - Kisumu (Morning Mix) - Unreleased

Auntie Flo is the debutant on my housemate's label Huntleys & Palmers. Having churned out two vinyl only sell out releases (Oh My Days and Highlife) on the afro / world / alt. house start up label, this is another killer tune in the works, yet to be assigned a label. Blissful pads sit warmly over an insistent xylophonic riff, backed by a syncopated afro rhythm with the occasional tribal chant. This is the morning mix so I can't wait to hear the "Club Mix". Having signed with Elastic recently and an album due to drop ahead of an appearance at Lovebox with Dixon and Prosumer, he's one to look out for this year.
