A Reckless March

A Reckless March

February is only just upon us, though the people at Reckless Republic have already set up an exciting roster of guests for their February line-up at The Spice Cellar. As always, entry is free with gustlist before midnight and just $20 after midnight for all the events listed below. Submit your guest lists here.

On Saturday 3rd March, two of the hardest working DJs in Sydney will be manning the decks at Spice Cellar. First up is YokoO, aka Julien Beltzung, originally from France and residing in Australia since 2006. Involved as a resident DJ in most of Brisbane’s underground house music events like Subtrakt, Therapy and Drop, and clubs such as Bar Soma and Family, YokoO moved to Sydney in early 2010 where he has been working at Reckless Republic as the main touring, marketing and events coordinator, and of course as a resident DJ at Spice Cellar. Also an established producer in his own right, Julien will be heating up the dancefloor with his own house cuts intertwined into his set.

Next for Saturday 3rd is Australian born and bred artist Claire Morgan, who established herself in Brisbane in 2001 and came to prominence locally with an inspired and individual sound, backed with extreme attention to detail at the controls. Manning the decks at many of Brisbane's hot nightspots, it was her infamous JJJ Mixup which brought her to national attention, and Claire soon found herself making the shift south to the big smoke of Sydney. With her regular Sydney gigs at Loose Kaboose, CO-OP, Bare Essentials, S.A.S.H, 4OUR, and festival appearances everywhere from Stereosonic to Playground Weekender and Strawberry Fields, she's one busy gal.

From 10pm, Sat March 3rd.

From 10pm, Sat March 10th.

The following weekend, it's two respected Melbourne artists. His records have been caned & charted by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Slam, Peace Division, Terry Francis, Ivan Smagghe, Richie Hawtin, Deepchild and James Zabiela (who featured Lorenzo in his 'Four' compilation). As a DJ he has played most parties & festivals throughout Australia and regularly tours the world over, playing everywhere from Kuala Lumpur to the Miami WMC to Bangkok to Buenos Aires.

On the other hand, Child - a talented producer of all things techno - was brought onto the Melbourne division of Derrick May’s Hi Tek Soul from where he was able to firmly establish himself in the Australian techno community. Child has had the privilege of playing at a number of the major festivals locally and internationally sharing the stage with a diverse array of the worlds greatest electronic acts including Carl Cox, Shpongle, Extrawelt / Midimilliz, Groove Armada, Funk D’void, Luke Vibert, Infected Mushroom, Justin Martin and many others.

Acid Mondays are Dan Ward, Alex Wolfenden and Garry Todd. Based in Ibiza during the summer months for the past few years, Acid Mondays is both their artist name and favourite post weekend activity, which more often than not involves taking in a session at Cocoon or circo loco in the most psychedelic of ways. Once these infamous sessions are finished and the studio is fired up, their addled brains combine to produce some superb twisted excursions into percussive, sprawling, sleazy house music. Inspired by the sets of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Zip and many more. This led to creation of their debut EP on 2020 Vision custom built for the terraces that have inspired them!

From 10pm, Sat March 24th.
