Maceo Plex, aka Maetrik, is no stranger to 'Ones To Watch' lists. In the last twelve months, his debut album, Life Index, as Maceo Plex helped form the basis of what has been year THE year for deep house. Tinged with disco and a nod to his roots in techno as Maetrik, his releases have been a regular in Top Tens in 2011, as has the man himself come end of year 'Best Producer/DJ' accolades. So ahead of his gig at Return To The Future this Friday, we'd thought we'd turn the tables a bit and ask Eric Estomel aka Maceo Plex just who he's got his eye on for 2012. Hold tight, here come your five new favourite producers...
Odd Parents
Odd Parents are a talented new group I've been working with in the studio on some really killer funkdefied futuristic house tracks. They're two friends of mine from back home by the names of Marksy & Alta that recently moved out here to Spain and are putting together some really dope music. Their first release on Ellum is set to release in early February and features my vocals on the title track "Fame". Plus some really sick remixes by Martin Dawson and Catz N' Dogz. Also worth mentioning that Odd Parents have recently signed some music to Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom label which will really help get their name out there in 2012.
Life & Death
Some more friends of mine but this time hailing out of Italy. They are a combination of the guys from Tale Of Us and Thugfucker as well as Manfredi just making music between the five of them. Some really sick music coming out on their label with the same name, but also an amazing new one releasing on Visionquest soon. Exciting time for them.
Nitin
One of the guys at the helm running things at No.19 music who sent me recently an amazing track that we're releasing on Ellum in March. He's also part of the My Favorite Robot crew of artists and friends out of Toronto, and he's been making some really sick music under a new project name called "Sync Mode", exciting!
Tone Of Arc / Dead Seal
These are the Two main monikers of Derrick Boyd, "Tone Of Arc" being his latest project. Jonny White from Art Department showed me his amazing music coming out on No.19 later this year and i was really into it right off the bat. Also Tone Of Arc's performance at the BPM festival in January was a real game changer for him. I'm expecting him to be greatly talked about in 2012.
Danny Daze
Danny's a good friend of mine out of Miami (where i'm from) and he had an amazing year in 2011. He's also been working on some crazy fresh stuff that people might not expect from him. Totally new fusion of styles that reflect his dj sets well and are a bit different from his huge hit Your Everything. I think the scene will be pleasantly surprised when they hear what Danny's been coming up with for 2012.
