One of Australia's most beloved boutique music festivals, the annual Playground Weekender, is returning for its sixth year in 2012. The dates have been locked in, the first lineup has been announced and music fans across NSW and beyond are no doubt already getting that tingling feeling at the thought of the debaucherous musical mayhem ahead of them.
To help spur along that tingling feeling, we've gathered a preview of some of the artists and DJs who'll be gracing the stages and decks at Del Rio Resort in 2012. With such a stellar lineup, we couldn't possibly fit them all into the one feature, so stay tuned for further instalments in the lead up to the festival. You can also find the full lineup and event details below.
Damian Lazarus is no stranger to the surrounds of Del Rio Resort, with the Crosstown Rebels main man returning yet again for 2012, this time bringing his Rebel Rave party to the country for the first time. Proudly presented by Pulse Radio and Finely Tuned, Rebel Rave will be taking over the Big Top on March 3rd with Lazarus and fellow rebel cohorts Art Department and Danny Daze.
You can check out our recent interview with Mr. Lazarus here and listen to his recent (and rather excellent) set at Burning Man 2011 below.
As reported by Resident Advisor earlier this year, Aussie disco newcomers Canyons are an act that are currently breaking through into the musical spotlight. With their debut album Keep Your Dreams only recently under their belts, the duo are currently preparing their live show to unleash onto Australian audiences. To say that their performance at PGW in 2012 is highly anticipated is a bit of an understatement. You can catch our recent interview with Canyons here.
London rapper Roots Manuva will be kicking off a world tour for his latest album 4everevolution in January next year and he has his sights set on PGW in March. Anyone who's seen the man in action on stage will attest to how much of a presence and spectacle he his. You can check out our review of 4everevolution here. Get ready to witness the fitness!
Greg Wilson has the respected tag of being the first UK DJ on television to ever mix two records together! We might scoff at that a little today, but in 1983 it was quite something. With a lengthy career stemming back to 1975, Greg Wilson is THE MAN when it comes to electro-funk, disco and boogie. Read our interview with Greg from earlier this year here.
James Lavelle's ever-evolving creation will be coming to PGW 2012 in the form of Unkle Sounds; a set from the man himself comprising of an audio-visual DJ show of original UNKLE tracks and remixes. If you've been a fan of the act at any stage of its varied form, then this will be a performance not to be missed.
Playground Weekender 2012 will take place from Thursday 1st - Sunday 4th March, 2012. You can purchase tickets to the festival here.
