American indie rockers Blonde Redhead have put together a compilation to benefit Japan in the country's ongoing recovery from the March tsunami and its aftermath. Entitled We Are The Works in Progress, the release is curated by frontwoman Kazu Makino, who was born in Kyoto, Japan, and is out January 10th.
The comp includes new and exclusive tracks from Pantha Du Prince, John Roberts, Karin Andersson of the Knife/Fever Ray, Four Tet, Nosaj Thing and more. Proceeds will benefit the Japan Society and Architecture for Humanity, with more charities to be added.
The compilation's title draws from the fact that many of the tracks are in fact works in progress. A statement from Makino herself reads:
"Unfinished things often carry more energy... the possibility of it eventually becoming something great is infinite without having to be quite yet. I've noticed that each songs relates to one another. Like my friend Scott Mou said, 'it sounds like each song is passing a baton to the next one.' I feel the same way."
