Future Music Festival 2012 Preview

Future Music Festival 2012 Preview

The 2012 edition of Future Music Festival is set to be its biggest and best yet...and we're not just saying that. Seriously, just a quick glance at the line-up is enough to make any other festival in the world, not just Australia, envious as hell. Boasting a roster of some of today's most exciting and cutting edge bands, DJs and producers, if there's one party not to be missed next year, surely this is it.

You can find the full line up below and win a double pass to go to Future Music Festival 2012 in your city by simply emailing us via here.

Future Music Festival 2012 ... It's Apocalyptic! from Future TV on Vimeo.

What makes the lineup for FMF 2012 so palatable is its successful cross section of artists; from the massive electronic and new wave pioneers New Order, to the club-storming DJ trio of Swedish House Mafia right through to the more 'underground' names like Azari & III, Aphex Twin and Holy Ghost! - there really is something to please everyone from young gun clubbers right through to jaded festival connaisseurs.

To whet your ravenous festival appetites, we've gathered a preview of some of the biggest names that are going to be gracing the stages at Randwick Racecourse next March.

New Order

It's rather difficult to sum up the cult pop phenomenon that is New Order, as their history runs deep, right back to the birth of acid house and the Machester rave scene. Reborn from the demise of Joy Division after the tragic loss of lead singer Ian Curtis, New Order went on to spawn the 1983 hit Blue Monday, which holds the record for the best-selling 12-inch single of all time and is a perfect example of the band's combination of New Wave and electronic music. With their last tour of Australia being for the Big Day Out back in 2002, their return is pretty highly anticipated.

Skrillex

Is there a bigger name in dubstep, nay in electronic music, right now? (Or even popular music for that matter) Hailing from California, Sonny Rose, AKA Skrillex, can be credited with being one of the artists helping dance music blow up in the American mainstream right now. With a seamless fusion of dubstep, electro and fidget house, Skrillex is carving a name for himself not only with his own fierce productions, but through remixing household names like Snoop Dogg and Lady Gaga and has even found time to launch his own label, OWSLA.

Swedish House Mafia

The combined prowess of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso has become a global house music phenomenon. Just how much of a dominance this Swedish trio now have on the global scene is evident in their upcoming show at New York’s Madison Square Garden selling out in less than 10 minutes. With a top selling album, Until One, and a live album One Night Stand on the way, these fellas are well on their way to complete house music domination.

Fatboy Slim

From the seminal 90s dance album You've Come A Long Way Baby, to his hard-partying reputation, through to his legendary free party on Brighton Beach in 2002 which saw him rock 250,000 revellers, if there's one thing you can say about Norman Cook, it's that he always does it large. A party DJ at heart, you can guarantee that Fatboy Slim will be bringing one hell of a set with him to FMF 2012.

Jessie J

Leading the female contingent for FMF is none other than English songstress Jessie J, who began her career as a songwriter for pop artists including Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus. Jessie's monster debut single, Do It Like A Dude, peaked at number two on the UK Singles Charts and her follow-up single Price Tag reached number one in the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand. With a street attitude all her own, you can bet that Jessie J will be one pop sensation not to be missed this summer.

Tinie Tempah

Holding down the grimier side of proceedings, the honour goes to UK rap superstar Tinie Tempah. He made his first mixtape in 2007 with 28 songs, freestyles and remixes and his first album, Disc-Overy, debuted at number one on 10th October 2010 and was preceded by the number-one singles Pass Out and Written in the Stars and the UK Top 5 hits Frisky and Miami 2 Ibiza.

The 2012 Future Music Festival willl be from March 3rd-12th in all major Australian cities. For ticket and festival info, head to the Future Music site.
