The Loops Of Fury: Rising Stars

The Loops Of Fury: Rising Stars

The Loops of Fury are Maximilian Clarke and James Wall; two young Brisbane expats who have been creating huge waves in the electronic scene since they packed their bags and headed for old London town. The mayhem of their anthems Rack Em and I Need have not only been getting lapped up by club crowds of the electro-rave persuasion, but also popping up in set lists of big names like 2ManyDJs, Erol Alkan, Tiesto and even progressive don Sasha. The pair have also been gaining a reputation as solid remixers, having just reworked Moby's new single, After. In the lead up to their Australian summer tour, the boys dished out all that's been happening in their world as well as recording an exclusive mix for Pulse (tracklist below).

Loops of Fury 1

Pulse: How was the recent gig at Deathwish Disco in Shoreditch? Jimi: Yeah it was good thanks, always fun playing with sHack!

When did you decide to move to London and why that city in particular? Max: It's always been on the cards; there's just so much music that's had a massive influence on us that has come out of London. Towards the end of 2009 the circumstances were just right for the move, so we just did it and haven't looked back!

What have been some of the highlights of your time in London/Europe so far? Jimi: Ahh so many! We've played some great shows, like Social Club in Paris was really cool. We got asked to turn the music down at KoKo in London when we played there which was pretty funny - apparently the bar staff couldn't hear the drink orders!

Max: That was the first time we played I Need actually, haha.

Fill us in on what the Club Climbatize Sessions are. Is the name a wink to the Prodigy at all? Jimi: Most definitely a wink to The Prodigy! We called it that because we always thought that Climbatize would be a cool name for a night. So the Climbatize Sessions is really about us getting to present some music we like and generally just muck around, whereas Club Climbatize is basically to capture what we're playing in clubs at the moment. It's a lot of fun putting those shows together!

Your tracks are catching the attention of a variety of different DJs. Do you think there’s a hunger at the moment for tracks that possess lots of genre crossover appeal? Jimi: I don't think that there is the same crazy sense of allegiance to a specific genre that you might have found a few years ago, so generally people are more open to new and different sounds. Its great, nothing like a bit of diversity to spice it up! Pushing the sound beyond the genre's rules also keeps that sound fresh which is really important. As for our tunes, we don't really think about the style of music when we're writing. It's more a case of the ideas that make us excited get finished!

How does the dynamic between you two work in the studio? Who loves/hates doing what? Max: I think we both love doing all of it to be honest! When the inspiration is there we're both clambering for the controls and when inspiration isn't there we're both stopping the other from calling time and heading to the pub. Pretty good combo really!

Is an album on the cards in the future? Jimi: Yeah definitelty! Stay tuned....

Would you eventually like to move from DJing to performing live shows? Jimi: Well that's where we came from; we've had a couple of different live shows running over the years. It's not really feasible at the moment, but when we eventually write an album I imagine we would want to tour that as a live show.

Max: 100%, but we'll still do some DJ sets even when the live rig is up and running I'm sure.

So what can we expect from your upcoming Australian summer tour? Max: Ravey, party electro.. with a pinch of acid [laughs].

Will there be any festival shows amongst the club dates you’re already locked in for? Max: We're playing Breaksfest in Perth! But this is more of a club tour really.

Each pick your favourite track of the year so far. Jimi: Tommy Trash - The End
Max: Damn, that was mine too! Bart B More - Traction
