Welcome to volume one of the Pulse Top Five Dubstep Mixtapes. Featuring the heaviest LFO wobblers, sub bass preachers, dubplate rinsers and bro step icons, this is an essential collection of the various dubstep flavours available from the Pulse mix archive. Check out the first five mixes in this ongoing series below and "run my tune!".

Magnetic Man

Magnetic Man were formed in 2007 by dubstep producers and DJs: Artwork, Benga, and Skream. They first appeared on a pair of commercial mixes issued in 2007: Dubstep Allstars, Vol. 5, mixed by N-Type, and Rinse: 01, mixed by Geeneus. The following year, Ligma VIP appeared on Mary Anne Hobbs' Evangeline compilation.

Their first official release was the 2009 12" The Cyberman, a remarkably stripped-down A-side. Shortly thereafter, the trio signed a major-label deal with Columbia, which released a self-titled album in 2010. It represented a convergence of dubstep and mainstream club music, with sleek surfaces constructed for the likes of John Legend, Ms. Dynamite, and Katy B, all of whom provided vocals. Much to the dismay of some dubstep purists, one of the singles, I Need Air, reached the U.K. Top Ten.

Rusko

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko bought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive, quickly coining his own take on the genre that infected . His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit Cockney Thug has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. And has been remixed by Buraka Som sistema, Diplo, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

Now part of the Mad Decent Camp with collaborations on the horizon with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Santigold, Trouble Andrew, Hot Chip and more…the future sure is looking bright. Currently setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists such as The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots and plenty more, Rusko is only going in one direction. Onwards, upwards and far beyond any other young producer could dream of.

Starkey

Philadelphia-based PJ 'Starkey' Geissinger is no stranger to club action. This hardworking producer/DJ has already earned the title of 'Mid-Atlantic and North American Laptop Battle Champion', and has recorded for an array of labels from Slit Jockey to Trouble & Bass and Peace-Of. Consistently bringing his unique blend of ghetto-tech, dubstep-funk to dancefloors worldwide, he is one of the toughest, most sought after urban DJs in the US today.

N-Type

N-Type is a dubstep DJ / producer / label owner who reigns from the deep south UK ( Surrey in-fact ). He has been knocking about on the underground scene for many years since mixing drum and bass in the late 90’s at the age 14.

As music evolved he was highly influenced by darker 2-step garage and began his career presenting an underground chart show on Delight FM with DJ Walsh. He managed two drivetime shows a week, back 2 back with Walsh then later took on a weekend chart show as he established a solo career. He currently presents a popular show on www.Rinse.fm every Sunday nite 11-1am, pushing the freshest Dubstep Dubplates.

Borgore

Asaf borger aka Borgore, has unquestionably become a household name for those who follow the ever growing Dubstep sound. Distant from the main stages and social circles of Dubstep in Europe, especially in the UK, Borgore turned to creating a huge online presence using many social network platforms.

Music has always been the biggest aspect of his life. Weather it was playing the piano when he was just three years old or graduating from one of the best youth programs in the world as a saxophone major, playing the drums for a Deathmetal band or MC’ing alongside Tomba on their live beatbox group, (which later into their Dubstep group, Amp) Borgore has dipped his toes into many areas of music, but is most well known for his aggressive take take on the Dubstep phenomenon.
