Stones Throw Records began 15 years ago as a vinyl-only label and continues producing LPs, 12-inch and 7-inch singles. Whilst, the iconic indepedent hip hop label now releases digitally as well, it is sticking to it's roots and celebrating them with a series of live and direct to vinyl performances by some of it's finest artists.
Below are some photos by Maricel Sison (msison.com) from Stones Throw's Direct to Disc #3 which took place at the recording studio Capsule Labs in Los Angeles. At each of these Direct to Disc events, the artists recordi live directly to vinyl, no edits, no pro-tools, no overdubs. Performing for 15 minutes a piece with the recording engineers mixing and mastering the record as it’s happening, the results will be output to 500 pressed on vinyl, with No CD’s or digital copies will be manufactured or sold.
The last event featured Dam-Funk with his band Master Blazter, and former Slave-frontman Steve Arrington who is working on an album for Stones Throw to be produced entirely by Dam-Funk.
You can purchase the limited edition vinyl recordings of the Dam-Funk & Steve Arrington performances in September.
