Ibiza Fires

The forest fires which started on Sunday have been burning across the party island. All local fire services were called in as well as re-inforcements from neighboring Majorca and 11 emergency service planes. At present only three people have been treated with injuries from smoke inhalation although many cars and a hundred hectares of  natural vegetation have been destroyed.

The majority of the evacuees were at a party at the scenic Benirras Bay. Evacuation started by boat to the nearby island of Puerto San Miguel, when it became clear the revelers could be stranded by the fires. 

While emergency services have been fighting the blaze since Sunday, not all the fires are as yet under control. One of the govt officials on the island was quoted as saying "At the moment the situation seems to be stable in the southern part, but not in the north. However we expect that it could be controlled soon as far as weather conditions could help"

Investigations are still to take place, early reports mention fire for cooking, which could suggest the fire was caused through personal negligence.
