British-Japanese star Maya Jane Coles may be young, but already she has become one of the world’s top DJs and one of the most respected artists in the industry today. The London based DJ is an artist in every sense of the word, frequently producing, engineering, arranging and mixing her own music, as well as her spectacular live shows. She has also previously sung on many of her own tracks and designed album and single artwork.
Music was Maya’s calling from an early age. Her passion led her to songwriting and later producing hip hop at only 15 years old, one of her many vast and diverse musical influences. Later in life, Maya found her home in underground house and has been dominating the game ever since, while earning the respect of some of the genre’s most legendary producers.
Her unique house productions and critically acclaimed debut album in 2012 have seen her top the Beatport charts, including her number one ‘What They Say’. In 2011 she was voted ‘Producer of the year and ‘Best Breakthrough DJ of the year’ by MixMag in 2011, as well as debuting at number 9 in Resident Adviser’s top 100 DJ poll in 2011. She also took out Best Newcomer at the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2011. Over the years she has gained big fans in iconic DJs such as Joris Voorn, Seth Troxler, Nick Curly and Jamie Jones, and supported them around the world.
Her influences don’t stop with house, as her electronica, dub side project She Is Danger with vocalist Lena Cullen has been incredibly successful with remix work for Massive Attack, Gorillaz and Dreadzone, and her dubstep project Nocturnal Sunshine has fans in Joy Orbison, TRG and Scuba. World domination continues at Maya regularly performs at the world’s most famous clubbing institutions including Space, Panorama Bar, Fabric, Amnesia, Electric Pickle, WHP, Warehouse702, Watergate and at the world’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury, ADE, Awake, Robot Festival, Global Gathering, Exit and Bestival.
