Randall Poster, Pitchfork's music supervisor, revealed that he is working with Skrillex on tracks for James Franco's new movie Spring Breakers. “Skrillex is doing original music for us. I had heard of Skrillex, but I wasn’t watching it that closely,” explained Poster. “And Harmony, who I’ve worked with forever, sent me a link to some Skrillex YouTubes, and I saw one had 54 million hits– I thought he had somehow figured out a way to manipulate the numbers. And then it dawns on you: There are kids that are never going to buy a record. They’re just going to play songs on YouTube.”
Says Sonny, "I think this film is going to turn a lot of heads in many ways. It was a lot of fun to work with Harmony because he gave me the freedom and trust to do whatever I wanted. It was also super awesome having Cliff Martinez involved too. I think the work he did on Drive was spectacular and I was a big fan before I knew he was coming onto this project. Scoring to film is definitely a different approach to music making in the sense that it's not so much about how the music sounds by itself as it is finding ways to compliment the vibe of the film. I had so much fun with this project and can't wait for the final product."
The movie, which also stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, entails four college girls who get thrown in jail for attempting to rob a restaurant to fund their spring break trip. James Franco stars and is cast as rapper whose name is Riff Raff. Skrillex musical stylings and James Franco as a rapper - this should be an interesting flick to say the least.
