Marco del Horno's Big Five

In recent times we here at Pulse HQ have been quite partial to the sounds of Bullet Train records. Their innate mixture of bass music, house and electro has been propping the speakers up on a number of occasions; not least the recent collaboration between frequent producer last Japan and the soon to be Rinse recordings artist MC Trim.  We caught up with the boss of the label Marco Del Horno and asked him to pick five tracks which summed up the musical ruminations of himself and Last Japan, including the brand new teaser footage for the aforementioned ‘East’. Marco offered his reason for the choices below each one...

Marco Del Horno v DJ Swerve - Ho riddim 

First big record I had that was playlisted at 1Xtra and hammered everywhere. Off the back of this I’ve continued to write stuff with Swerve. It’s also great to see P money has gone on to do big things as well. It was kind of a launch pad for us all

Last Japan – Eats ft Trim 

 It’s a follow up to the record ‘Blood Diamond’ they did last year. Last Japan production sits somewhere between hip hop / bass / future - whatever you want to call it. It’s why it works so well with an artist like Trim who again could be pigeonholed as grime but is actually far broader than that. We thought we’d have to shoot a proper vid for this one. Big up Ish who shot it for us.

Last Japan – Settle down 

There’s some great summer vibes on this one, which again shows the versatility of his production. I love how this video looks, like it was shot in America somewhere – it was actually Richmond Park.

Alex Clare – When Doves Cry (Marco Del Horno remix) 

I love Alex Clare from the first time I heard his voice – and I was gutted when it looked like he wasn’t going to blow up. Amazing what one Microsoft sync can do. I did this mix last year on his cover of Prince. Nice and subby.

Marco Del Horno v DJ Swerve – Just Rewind ft Blacks and Chann 

I love the video for this one. Myself and Swerve had to eat 2 old VHS tapes for this one – serious (luckily the director didn’t make me swallow it). Came out great though.
