So, Marco you have decided to start your own imprint. How long have you had the idea and what is the reasoning behind it and is this side of the business something you always had designs to be involved in?How would you describe it musically? Owning a record label and being in total control of your own music output is something that I have always wanted and have felt was always meant for me. It was just a matter of time, I guess. It came just now because I assume that we were not yet ready, however now that we are in the process of starting everything, and we are facing all the matters that are involved in this process of creation, I often think that I wish I’ve done this before. But it’s ok, it’s a whole new world! Very much more articulate than I was imagining, but very exciting all the same. I think it’s pretty much like building a house-you are constantly working on it, and when the structure is ready you have to decorate.
The philosophy behind Superfiction, is creating a music community. We think there’s definitely room in the music business for our concept. Which is based on everything we have explored across the past 20 years of music research and record collection. It will try to stay aside trends and new waves. We conceptually aim to be timeless. The music style, reflecting our idea are all set to be ranging quite broadly across the electronic music spectrum. At the beginning, it will be surely more dance floor and club orientated, but in the future, don’t be too surprised to also see more electronica, and/or something else completely different. As long as we believe it is quality music, then we shall release it on Superfiction - that is the idea.
Are you quite excited to be able to curate the music for the label? The A&R for your label is probably the most important thing. I like the idea of creating something where people cannot exactly predict what’s the new remix is going to be like, but just creating expectations on something that people definitely want to check out..
Where did the name for the label come from? The name is a long story that makes total sense in our head only… But at the same time it’s easy, the world where we live it’s all a big fiction, isn’t it?
We hear you will be pressing vinyl for each release? Superfiction is a vinyl label. Of course we will do also digital, but the priority is releasing on wax. For sure we will eventually do some digital only releases . Digital is the main format nowadays, which we also use and we take in great consideration, but vinyl remains vinyl...
Can you tell us about the first release and what others you have lined up? Episode #1 on Superfiction Recordings is going to be out mid/end of July, the second and the third to follow around September and December. Be prepared to see the 2 Crocodiles spinning around quite often [Laughs]
Will you be looking into new talent? The idea for now is focusing with what we consider is the music that represent us the best, and this is what we are doing at the present moment. Soon, as priorly stated, we will be open to more and more collaborations and release/produce other artists. Albums, compilations. Superfiction is going to be a party that will take place around the world, in collaboration with promoters worldwide.
You have been residents of London for some time now what attracted to you to the city? Ehhh, been living here for over 10 years. Loved this city from the moment I came the first time many years ago, and I still do a lot.
It must of course have had a big influence on your career. How do you feel it has changed over recent years? London is always expanding, progressing, transforming. But at the same time remains always the same. Is amazing the feeling of equilibrium that a city with so many influences have. Everything runs quite smooth, and there’s a huge warehouse culture coming back recently.
And finally you will be playing Basing house for your label launch party, how come? It happened quite automatically, cos we love playing there, there a nice sound system, and the size of the club is perfect for creating a cool atmosphere.
