Anneliese Pomering, Sydney - Australia - on 2/7/12
Sydney’s own deep house export Deepchild will release his new album this October, titled Neukölln Burning.
Deepchild has been based in Berlin since 2009, a city that has heavily influenced and shaped his upcoming release. The title of the album comes from the Neukölln district, where he resides.
"Neukölln has come to represent to me a place of rebirth, of starting again," he says. "The sense of a culture supplanted into an unfamiliar environment and allowed to grow new roots, to reframe what 'home' means in a way which asks fundamental questions, and relies deeply on the kindness of strangers... I’ve included a lot of found-sound elements from touring the US, as well as subtle references to Arabic and Sufi music—very much reflective of the heavily immigrant culture of Neukölln."
Deepchild recorded the album over Germany’s long and dark winter, at the same time he was taking himself off anti-depressant medication he’d been taking for years.
Neukölln Burning is scheduled for release through Thoughtless Music on October 9th.
