Lee Burridge Can't Stop Dreaming

Lee Burridge is a man on the move.  He’s headed to SpyBar this evening and with a tightly woven schedule of international gigs and his wildly successful “All Day I Dream” parties dotting the globe, we were lucky to bend his ear for a few moments before he lights up Chicago’s most consistently underground high-end clubbing experience.

So a year after kicking off, your All Day I Dream concept parties have really taken off. What do you think has been the biggest challenge of launching your own party brand?  Getting my ADID cohort Matthew Dekay to play at all the events with me! I want more Matthew! (and finding outdoor venues. that's always a challenge).

Aside from New York where else have you found a particularly warm welcome?  So far we have held them at BPM festival and Prima Vera festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, WMC in Miami, and last weekend at Piknic Elektronic, Montreal. We are also about to launch this weekend in LA. Each location has had the same response to be honest and it's down to the soundtrack. The music itself is really fun. There are actually a lot more girls than guys coming to the events which is great, and I think it's because them music doesn't rely on energy to engage the listener. It's not banging, it's seductive. More for the head and the hips than the waving of hands. This has, so far accorded an amazingly warm welcome from each location we've held it.

Unfortunately your last party in NYC ended prematurely due to some police activity and we actually saw the police handing you a ticket. What was it for?  It was the noise equivalent of a speeding ticket.

Your new record with Matt Dekay, Lost in a Moment, on Innervisions is fantastic with a nice rework from Dixon. With your hectic travel schedule when did you find the time to work on this record?  Matthew and I try to work regularly on music. Matthew’s keen mind solves problems such as us being apart by creating portable pop up studios to compliment the main Berlin space. It's really important for us and our labels to be working on tracks all the time. If I'm away I just call the studio and shout "more reverb" down the phone.

The sample is sexy and haunting, did you find it or have someone create it from scratch?  I sampled it from TV. I thought the way she spoke the words was really musical and when we tried it it fitted really well with the vibe of Lost in a moment.

Although it's all probably second nature at this point is there a difference to your process of preparation before an ADID that differs from your other club gigs?  I'm always preparing for ADID by buying music that suits the party but I never actually prepare.
