The decline in sales of physical-format music is news to no one, especially not Amoeba Records, “The World’s Largest Independent Record Store”. With huge, warehouse style locations in Hollywood, San Francisco and Berkeley, Amoeba has impressively managed to stay afloat amidst the rapidly changing landscape of music sales & artist-audience interaction.
Amoeba’s website has a pleasant little surprise for those willing to “dig” for music, as the vinyl dinosaurs of yesteryear used to say... A free downloads page! Come one, come all: from world to blues to holiday tunes, there’s a little something for everyone. Even exclusive live recordings and videos from in-store performances: “we continue to share our passion for music by inviting you to download free tracks from Amoeba’s live in-store performances, bonus and unreleased material & more!”
Highlights from the ‘electronic’ tab include originals from RJD2, The 2 Bears, Flying Lotus, and Hercules & Love Affair, as well as some solid remixes from Aeroplane, Apparat, Keep Shelly In Athens, and Forest Sword. As an added bonus, check out Lana Del Rey’s live in-store performance from earlier this year at Amoeba Hollywood (below).
