One of Australia's most beloved boutique music festivals, the annual Playground Weekender, is returning for its sixth year in 2012. With just over two weeks to go until playtime begins, we've prepared part two of our artist preview to help get you excited for the fun that awaits (as if you weren't already pumped, though). You can read back on part one here and find the full lineup and event details below. Get ready for the Pulse Big Top!
The Orb
Founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and KLF member Jimmy Cauty, The Orb became a group instrumental in the rise of ambient house. Most famously known for their track Little Fluffy Clouds, the group have in the latter part of their career flirted with minimal techno on Germany's Kompakt and even worked on a collaborative album with Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. Alex Paterson also revealed to Pulse recently that he would be releasing an album with dub legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry in September. Headlining Back To The Future in the Pulse Big Top on Friday night, expect to see a whole lot of trippers come out of the woodwork for these guys.
Chic featuring Nile Rodgers
Get ready to freak out, for headlining the main stage on Saturday night are 70s disco legends Chic, led by none other than founding member Nile Rodgers. Their performance will be a perfect accompaniment to the shenigans that are Saturday's fancy dress party. Rodgers recently met with legendary act Daft Punk to discuss working on an album together. Check Rodger's favourite Daft Punk tracks here.
Seekae
Young electronica trio Seekae are blowing up rigtht now. With an acclaimed debut album +Dome released last year, along with a successful UK tour last year as well as an Australian tour supporting Mount Kimbie, 2012 looks to be their biggest year yet, starting with their performance on the main stage at Playground Weekender on Friday night. Check a recent excellent mix from George of Seekae here.
Danny Daze
2011 was the breakout year for Danny Daze, with his track Your Everything catching the ears and hearts of Jamie Jones and Lee Foss of Hot Creations. A DJ since the tender age of 13, Daze's success might have arrived much later, but that probably only makes it taste even sweeter. The hot property DJ will be playing Rebel Rave on the Saturday in Pulse's Big Top. Hurry up if you want to grab a free download of a Danny Daze & Young Edits collaboration exclusively on Pulse here, for there's only one day left to grab it.
Hudson Mohawke
Warp Records wonderkid Hudson Mohawke has been one of the hottest names in the UK bass scene the past few years. His 2009 debut Butter took the wildness of psychedelic funk, the slinkiness of glossy R&B and a heady dose of ADHD-level energy and wrapped it up into an album that was lapped up by dubstep/future bass conasissuers. Expect some wobbly, rough-and-ready tunes when Hud-Mo hits Back To The Future on Friday night.
Playground Weekender 2012 takes place from Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th March, 2012. You can purchase tickets to the festival here.
