This remix package of Jazzanova's Look What You Are Doing To Me pits man of the moment, Stuttgart's Motor City Drum Ensemble, against some time classicist Christian Prommer. Listened back to back, the juxtaposition of the pair of remixes it seems almost confrontational, with Prommer slapping the young upstart down with a masterful display of alchemy. Unfortunately the pair have been left in the lurch with an awkward vocal that falls flat and out of context from the original is simply limp. The contrasting attitudes shown from the pair is all to evident, with Prommer working and grafting to pull victory from the jaws of defeat and MCDE going missing a crucial moments.

First onto the (jog) wheel of steel was MCDE, who took the aforementioned vocal from the original and managed to make it worse. Without any of his typical looseness, Plessow makes the vocal sound wet, disjointed and irritating. Dreary off cuts from the rest of his discography are combined with over strung strings, for a result that lacks any of the vigour, swagger and attitude that usually sets the Stuttgart upstart apart from the rest.

Luckily Prommer is on hand to rescue the day, extending the track to over 9 minutes and placing the vocal at the beginning, allowing it to slowly become part of a swelling, epic techno monster. Even saying that I'd quite like an dub edit, or maybe just loop the last three or four minutes, either way the urgency that unfolds in this period works to temper the cheesey vocal. Maybe this is musical rage from having to over listen to the vocal but it works for me, with a brooding climax unfurling as the track draws to a close.

For this delux package of remixes, the value of hanging on, tweaking and showing solid craftsmanship is in full display, with Prommer using all his experience to work something out of nothing. MCDE still evidently has a lot to learn, or maybe he should just turn down remix offers he cant put his heart and soul into.
