DJ Woody vs The Bodysnatchers - Passenger Mixtape Vol. 1

Passenger Mixtape Vol. 1
DJ Woody vs Bodysnatchers
PASSENGER RECORDS

DJ Woody aka Woody Madera is a force to be reckoned with. With 5 major UK and World DJ titles to his name Woody rolls with the industries best, he scratches like a paranoid veteran crack addict, producing fresh cuts with razor sharp precision and more flavor than Jamie Oliver’s kitchen. In the words of the infamous DJ Q-Bert, “Woody is genius!” and his latest ensemble, the Passenger Mixtape Vol. 1 is no exception

Press play on the 60 mix and Woody kicks things off saying hello in 12 different languages to the backing of hill-billy banjo music, before the beat flips to the classic boom bap hip hop drums moving through a soundscape of electro-house basslines to the golden age funk ’n’ soul big band sound that breaks was built on. If you’ve never heard of DJ Woody, Passenger Records or the Body Snatchers, you will have by the end of the first track thanks to the mix of scratched vocal samples. By time the second track drops and rocks out with some dirty distorted bass it’s clear that all Woody “wants to do is make you move, so act like you don’t give a fuck! “

The CD reader may read 27 tracks, but there is probably triple that amount, that’s because Aquasky/Passenger Records handed over the entire Body Snatchers back catalogue, as well as a bunch of unreleased band and label material to be used at Woody’s discretion. Add to that the fact that every track features remixed acapellas or exclusive freestyles from the some of the dopest MC’s in the northern hemisphere, and the result is a journey through hip hop, down beat, breaks, dub-step, dancehall, reggae, electro and yes, even house. Other artists dropping bombs on this mix include, Joker, Mickey Slim, Goldmouf, Charles Victor, Blu Rum 13, Circa’ 95, Frilla, Lex-One, Broke n English, Virus Syndicate, and Sporty-o, just to name a few.

The fact that every track features an MC may be the mixtapes only downfall. That being said, each and every MC upholds the task of geeing up the listener and although they draw attention away from the ridiculously good quality production, it becomes more appreciated on repeat listens. This is definitely party album to be placed on the top of the pile, and will most probably become a timeless classic.
