Spencer Parker has become somewhat of a household name in house and techno circles; thanks largely in part to a stellar 2008 that saw several chart-topping successes on Rekids and Buzzin' Fly, respectively. Now, just in time for this summer's opening ceremonies, Spence has returned to the Buzzin' Fly camp to deliver what is likely to be the season's first legitimate anthem.
The Beginning has summery vibes flowing over the top of every throbbing kick drum. From the onset, it's truly an enveloping journey, laden with groove and ethnic nuances. The Beginning truly represents the groove-and-percussion focused direction that house music has taken, and the distinctive rhythm that Parker has created is thanks in part to fellow 'Buzzer Aymonier Francois; who laid down the original synth notes after Spencer decided to add some additional flair during the final production stage.
While the original is certainly worthy of much celebration, the remixes of The Beginning are the real stand-outs. Cadenza's newly crowned superstar Michel Cleis takes the first stab at it, and shows quite convincingly why he has become man of the moment. The drums and hats roll on, creating a breezy affair that continues to build in momentum, while using many of Parker's original ideas and concepts. But Cleis takes The Beginning to the next level, churning out a beast of a tune that is laced with heavy tribal references. Affkt and Danny Fiddo provide yet another groovy take, adopting a "housier" approach, while utilizing the melodic elements to string things along into another masterpiece.
The Beginning, aptly titled; marks both the beginning of the summer season, and the beginning of a new direction for Spencer Parker. He’s lived up to the hype thus far, and this release simply cements his seat in the upper echelon of forward-thinking up and coming artists.
